If your email marketing seems to be on a downward spiral, you will want to consider ways that you can improve your marketing tactics.  Here are a few tips to help you get a higher response and better customer engagement.

1. Deliverability and Verifiability

You will want to use permission-based lists when you are sending out emails.  This will help to improve your response rates.  You should track the activity of your emails to learn how many are delivered, bounced, and clicked.  If you don’t do this, then you are wasting money.

2. Aim for Target Markets

Email marketing should always start out with an aim.  You will want to create your email lists based on your ideal target audience.  This is the best way to encourage a response and capture the attention of the readers.

3. Tie Your Marketing Together

You will want to use the same key messages on all of your marketing channels.  This includes your email marketing, website marketing, social media, and others.  You also want to make sure that the people who see your marketing are able to respond to you easily.

4. Give Your Lists a Chance

Building trust with your email recipients is key.  You will want to give them opportunities to opt into your email marketing, change their preferences for delivery, and update their privacy settings.  You will also want to make sure that the content is valuable to them.

5. Look for Opportunities for Improvement

When you are looking over the success of your emails, you will want to make sure that you are aware of what the people are clicking on and what they are ignoring.  This will help you to determine why people are losing interest in your emails so that you can improve in the future.

6. Short and To the Point

You will want to answer the following questions quickly in order to make a good impression:

  • What do you want them to do?
  • Why should they do it?
  • It is easy for them to do?

7. Personalization

If your email does not sound like it is being sent from a human, chances are it will be ignored.  You will want the emails to come from an actual person instead of an automated system.

8. Preview Pane Woes

Prospects should never have to download an image to understand what you have to offer.  You will want to have a clear message with a call to action.

9. Track Everything

You should track the behaviors of your readers so that you can see what is working for you.  You can use the information that you get to help you be more personalized and offer timely communication and engagement with your readers.

10. Use Social Media to Welcome Conversation

You should move the conversations from the inbox to your social media platforms.  If readers share what you have to say, then chances are they will help you out with your next email marketing campaign.
